On February 25, 2026, the Makerere University grounds were filled with joy and celebrations as another cohort of the biomedical engineering program joined the 76th graduation ceremony of the university. The celebration (as captured above) for the 2026 Master’s Degree Makerere University graduates and trainees of the Uganda-CWRU Research Collaboration’s “SIGHT” Biomedical Engineering Training Program – “Strengthening Research Capacity in Innovative Global Health Technologies for Non-Communicable Diseases in Uganda,” funded by the U.S. NIH-Fogarty International Center grant D43TW012260 was joined by Dr.Robert Ssekitoleko, the Ugandan based Principal investigator.
The SIGHT program is run by the Biomedical Engineering Unit, Department of Physiology at Makerere University (Uganda) in conjunction with investigators at the Case Western Reserve University (USA). The administrative team includes Uganda Case Research Collaboration and Makerere University. The program’s main aim is to build capacity for medical technology innovation and develop human capacity interested in research in Biomedical Engineering.
On behalf of the SIGHT program leadership team, Dr. Robert Ssekitoleko congratulated the graduates upon reaching this milestone and encouraged them to utilize the learned skills for the improvement of the country’s health system.
